My phone just sent me a 'memory' - On this date last year... and a holiday snap of my children and I hiking in the French Alps popped up. Ah that's right I said to myself, this time last year you were in France enjoying the European summer. I immediately jumped into my photo album and took a trip down memory lane. But not before I checked the current weather forecast for the south of France. Sigh...
My family and I were lucky enough to spend a month in 2018 travelling around France, Croatia, Montenegro and the UK. We stayed in La Marais in Paris before travelling South to Aix-En-Provence and picking up a campervan which we drove North through the Alps to Chamonix. We ended up in Geneva, Switzerland before joining up with family in Montenegro. After a week on the coast we travelled to Dubrovnik before flying to London for a whirlwind weekend of Wimbeldon, Pride marches and of course the World Cup. And it was hot.
Travelling with children is all of the things; memorable, exhausting, fun and at times extremely challenging. So before we left I was determined that everyone was to pack light. I had visions of myself and my husband Scott lugging multiple suitcases everywhere and was firm on limiting everyones luggage, including my own. As a result I took a carry on sized bag which weighed 14kgs. So I had to pack smart and cover options for city sight seeing in Paris, Dubrovnik and London to camping in a van through the French countryside to hiking in the Alps. Thanks to a careful selection of quality pieces it was surprisingly easy to pull together outfits for every occasion. Scroll down for my holiday workhorses that were on high rotation:
Mia Fratino Cashmere Favourite Cowl in Onyx Fleck. Click to shop here
This was the only knit I took with me and it was perfect for cooler evenings by the coast and staying warm in the Alps. I draped it around my shoulders everywhere I went. The Onyx fleck colour was easy to keep clean (or hide the dirt) and went with everything!
Mela Purdie Cafe T in White. Click to shop here
I think I wore this T-shirt every other day on this trip. Mela Purdie's jersey is super easy to wash so was simple to wash it in the basin and have it fresh for the next day. I also took the Mela Purdie Frill Sleeve T in Alloy which you can grab on sale here!
Mela Purdie Wide Leg Pant in Microprene. Click to shop similar here
The pants I took are now sold out but I highly recommend travelling with a pair of microprene pants. They scrunch down to nothing and don't crease. They are light enough for 35+ degrees but also layer up with knits easily. The Cropped Tuscan pant is the update I've got my eye on for this Spring....
I also squeezed in a few other bits and pieces including a summer dress, denim skirt, white shirt (that doubled as a beach cover up) and some trackies. With careful selections that can mix and match the dreaded task of packing should be easy! Now to plan my next holiday, and decided whether or not we should take the kids....
